21 May 2012 – In the mid-1980s, Dan Zawacki found himself growing to hate the holidays. Mr. Zawacki was a salesman for Honeywell Inc. in Illinois. When the end of the year rolled around, he had to take his 40 clients out to eat to thank them for their business.

Socializing day after day "was hard and draining," says Mr. Zawacki, now 50 years old. "Customers would order Jack Daniels and Coke. In the 1980s, no one drank iced tea."
