Amid Sluggish Startup Growth, a New Head Entrepreneur

1 July 2014 - The president of a family business in Alberta, Canada, was named chairman today of the board of directors of Entrepreneurs' Organization, a global peer-to-peer network. Blair Assaly takes the helm at a time when business creation has been declining. Only about 476,000 new US businesses started up each month in 2013, down 7% from 2012 and 12% from 2011, according to an April study by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, an entrepreneurship advocacy group. It's critical to the US economy that the number of startups continues to grow, since only a small percentage of the total will eventually become major economic contributors. By Sarah E.
